Sz. Berlin Elevacija [RZZ-26]

RZZ-22 (Rekvijem za ždralove) bio je polusatni A/V performans koji je po narudžbi slovenskog kolektiva BridA realiziran za R.o.R. Festival. Održan je u prostoru Mostovna, u Novoj Gorici, 26. svibnja 2022. godine. Temeljio se na vizualnoj i zvučnoj reinterpretaciji fotografija povijesnih industrijskih dizalica u Rijeci. U radu je korišten softver za sonifikaciju, koji omogućuje generiranje i izvođenje apstraktnog zvuka izravno iz fotografija i videozapisa određenih lokacija.
Komponiran kao rekvijem za gradske povijesne dizalice, projekt odgovara na ubrzanu automatizaciju lučkih dizalica i planiranu zamjenu njihovih operatera umjetnom inteligencijom. Prije stotinu godina, golemi kranovi koji danas stoje napušteni u gradovima poput Rijeke djelovali bi jednako fantastično kao roboti — poput bjegunaca iz priče autora H. G. Wellsa. Danas ti industrijski divovi postaju simboli baštine, a čak i novije dizalice iz 20. stoljeća zastarijevaju. Sjećanja njihovih operatera također će brzo izblijedjeti. Ova revidirana audiovizualna izvedba nastoji odati počast tim masivnim strojevima, ponovno prizvati njihovu otuđenu, proto-robotsku auru te propitati što se gubi kada oni utihnu.

Elevacija [RZZ-26] revidirana je verzija izvedbe iz 2022., producirana za Žitnjak. Kombinira vizuale iz 2022.godine s novijim snimkama industrijskih zona Rijeke. Na taj način prikazuje njihovu degradaciju u razdoblju od 2021. do 2026. godine. Podijeljena je u tematske cjeline koje istražuju i povezuju različite tipove dizalica, od najstarijih do novijih. Svaka cjelina polazi od njihovih specifičnih vizualnih formi, kao i zvukova koje softver iz njih generira. Umjesto glazbenog portreta, “uranjajući” zvučni pejzaž proizlazi izravno iz njihovih vizualnih tekstura.

2007. Sz. Berlin je osnovan u Londonu. Redovni A/V nastupi u Londonu.
2008. Time Machine Biennale – tri instalacije i jedna live akcija u nuklearnom bunkeru u Konjicu, Bosna i Hercegovina.
2009. Sz. Berlin sudjeluje u tematskoj kompilaciji DDR60.
2010. 2. NSK State Folk Art Biennale – film Furchtbare Schönheit entstand uključen je u izložbu, a live performans održan je u Ballyvaughan Castle. Live izvođenje soundtracka filma održano je u The Horse Hospital u listopadu.
2011. Nastupi u Iklectiku, London, i na brodu M.S. Stubnitz u Hamburgu.
2012. Objavljen CD Windstärke zwolf.
2013. A/V rad Towards a concrete dys(u)topia, koji istražuje simboliku brutalizma, premijerno je izveden u Iklectiku.
2014. Objavljen je The Tower, film o napuštenom londonskom neboderu. A/V live performans RZZ-22 na R.o.R. Festival u Novoj Gorici, posvećen riječkim lučkim dizalicama. U listopadu je performans SZB-22 održan na 2. Bruital Berlin Uproar. U studenom je TEV-22, filmska suradnja s redateljem Nik Panicom, prikazan na Burren College of Art. U prosincu 2022. otvorena je samostalna izložba Disposizione Schematica, RZR-22 u DKC Lamparna. Izložba je istraživala ruinirano željezničko skladište u Rijeci i uključivala drugu video-suradnju s Panicom.
2015. Sz. Berlin sudjeluje u rezidenciji R.o.R. Residency, u organizaciji slovenskog umjetničko-kustoskog kolektiva BridA, u kontekstu projekta European Capital of Culture. Samostalna izložba Sprava in sinteza otvorena je u Studio 136, Šempas, u srpnju 2023, temeljena na arhitektonskoj povijesti grada Nova Gorica. Otvaranje je praćeno A/V performansom Disonantna Sinteza (Dissonant Synthesis). Nove verzije performansa predstavljene su i u Gradskoj vijećnici Nove Gorice povodom Slovenskog dana arhitekata (listopad 2023) i u Iklectiku, London (studeni 2023). U studenom Sz. Berlin sudjeluje na grupnoj A/V izložbi T.F.I.D. (The Future is Dead) predstavljenoj u New Yorku, Kini i Poljskoj, s filmom Spiel mit zeit (HDV-23) inspiriranim ruiniranim hotelom Haludovo Palace Hotel.
2016. A/V kolaborativni projekat Sz. Berlin ± Panic objavljuje audiovizualnu Trilogy of Decay – o bivšim industrijskim lokacijama u Hrvatskoj.
2017. Prošireno terensko istraživanje projekta Sz. Berlin ± Panic u elektrani Snaga i Svetlost u Belgrade. Kratki film Iluminacija [BGD-25] prikazan je u Beogradu, Trbovlju i Rijeci u svibnju–lipnju 2025. u okviru projekta FASIH. U listopadu je dokumentarni film Transformacija [SVT-25] prikazan na art+science festivalu u Silosi, Beograd.

Sz. Berlin Elevacija [RZZ-26]

RZZ-22 (Rekvijem za ždralove) was a half-hour A/V performance commissioned by the Slovene collective BridA for R.o.R. Festival 2022. It took place at Mostovna, Nova Gorica on 26th May 2022. It was based on visual and sonic reprocessing of photos of Rijeka’s historic industrial cranes. It used sonification software, which makes it possible to generate and play abstract sound directly from location photos and videos.
It was composed as a requiem for the city’s historic cranes, responding to the rapid automation of dockyard cranes and the planned replacement of their operators by A.I. A century ago, the colossal cranes that now stand idle in cities like Rijeka would have seemed as fantastic as robots, like escapees from a story by H.G. Wells. Now, these industrial giants are becoming heritage icons and even more recent 20th century cranes are becoming obsolete. The memories of their operators will also fade rapidly. This revised audiovisual performance is intended both to pay tribute to and to recover the alien, proto-robotic aura of these massive machines and to question what may be lost as they fall still.
Elevacija [RZZ-26] is a revised version of the 2022 performance produced for Žitnjak. it combines the 2022 visuals with more recent images of Rijeka’s rapidly changing industrial zones. In this way, it shows their evolution and degeneration in the period between 2021 and 2026.It is split into thematic sections, exploring and merging the different types of crane, from the oldest to more recent. Each section works with their specific visual forms, plus the sounds that the software generates from them. Rather than a musical portrait, the immersive soundtrack is derived directly from their visual textures.

2019 The A/V work Towards a concrete dys(u)topia exploring the symbolism of Brutalism premieres at Iklectik.
2022 Release of The Tower, a film about an abandoned London tower block. A/V live performance RZZ-22 at R.o.R. Festival, Nova Gorica, dedicated to the port cranes of Rijeka. In October, the performance SZB-22 took place at the 2nd Bruital Berlin Uproar, based on the history of Tempelhof Airport. In November TEV-22, a film collaboration with filmmaker Nik Panic was shown at Burren College of Art. In December 2022, the solo exhibition, Disposizione Schematica, RZR-22 opened at DKC Lamparna. This explored a ruined rail depot in Rijeka and included a second video collaboration with Panic.
2023 Sz. Berlin participates in the R.o.R. Residency, organised by Slovene artistic-curatorial collective BridA in the context of the European City of Culture. The solo exhibition Sprava in sinteza opened at Studio 136, Šempas in June 2023, based on the architectural history of the city of Nova Gorica. The opening was followed by the A/V performance Disonantna Sinteza (Dissonant Synthesis). New versions of the performance were also presented at Nova Gorica City Hall for the Slovene Day of Architects (in October 2023) and Iklectik, London (November 2023). In November Sz. Berlin participated in the group A/V exhibition T.F.I.D. (The Future is Dead) presented in New York, China and Poland with the film Spiel mit zeit (HDV-23) inspired by the ruined Haludovo Palace hotel.
2024 The A/V collaborative project Sz. Berlin ± Panic releases its audiovisual Trilogy of Decay – about ex-industrial sites in Croatia.
2025 Extended research by Sz. Berlin ± Panic on site at the power station Snaga i Svetlost in Belgrade. The short film Iluminacija [BGD-25] was shown in Belgrade, Trbovlje and Rijeka in May-June 2025 in the framework of the FASIH project. In October the documentary Transformacija [SVT-25] was shown at the art+science festival at Silosi, Belgrade.
